I love the motion in this picture and the fact that L was unaware of anything but wanting to be graceful like this scarecrow. Love...

frida kahlo scarecrow
For the past 2 years I have chosen to spend my birthday touring the exhibits at Florence Griswold museum .. and I am so glad I did! Last year the fairy houses captivated us all .. and this year, it was the scarecrow artists. Here we are checking out Frida Kahlo. I will post pics of some of my favorites .. but really I loved so many that I could post all of my pics here just to prove my point. I will try to restrain myself. :)
Northern Harrier
Went for a little walk at Harkness with the kids .. it was so very warm and sunny! Watched this Northern Harrier hunting the yellow-rumped warblers in the marsh. Then we found tons of hermit crabs on the beach.
American Pipit?
We got to watch this bird for a while, but am unsure if it is really a pipit. All in good time, I am sure it will become clear. Not a huge picture .. so not sure if anyone can see well enough to tell.

coolest "driftwood"
Long hike out on Griswold Point. So gorgeous and so many great birds! Out to dinner at a funky little taco place. Great day.
our view .. so stormy we lost the beach
We gained a little sun but got high winds instead. Ah well, our whale watch plans were not meant to be ...
It was beautiful though.
family
We usually take our family holiday card photo here at grey's beach .. not so this year since it was rainy and cold. But I could not resist taking a picture anyway. Day 3 of rain .. and we headed to our fav breakfast place on the cape and for the usual beach and cemetery rounds. We really tried to make the best of things .. but we look forward to this vacation all year long. There is something about the quality of light on the cape in October ... and we got to see about 10 minutes of light on the whole of our trip. Better luck next year?

feeding the birds in p-town
One of our favorite things to do now in P-town is to go feed the birds. There was a break in the heavy rain .. and we fed the chickadees and titmice. E was successful at staying still and having the birds land on his hand for the first time this year!
in the dunes
Day two, more rain. We went for a long damp walk in the dunes to find the cranberry bog. We picked about 4 cups .. it was so exciting to find wild cranberries. We also found the remnants of a coyote's breakfast. Hmm.
vacation .. day one of rain
Our first day of vacation .. and it was raining. (Spoiler alert .. it rained every SINGLE day of our time on the cape. Ugh) Kids were happy to explore our hotel and play cards. (By day 4 .. this was getting very old.) We gave up eventually and took a long wet walk on the beach. We did get to see Northern Gannets and Greater Shearwaters .. and we watched them from our hotel room. The most fabulous part of this hotel is the view .. our room looks out over the bay from the top of a bluff.
A and N
Catching up with an old friend was just the best way to end our day. And we got to meet A's family! So nice to get together with our matchmaker. :)
molly & richard wedding
Such a beautiful wedding among the pine trees at Look Park. Gorgeous dress, adorable kids, yummy food and touching/humorous vows. So M & R .. I love it! We all had a great day and were so glad to be a part of it.
art class
I know this photo is a little blurry but I love it. This was when M decided to have the kids paint to music and my kids were thrilled by this idea. Must remember to do this at home. I love the warmth of this photo at expressiones.
polymers .. science center program
The library has some of the best science classes. This one was interesting .. and I love the kids in gloves and goggles. :)

button jar!
Does anyone else have a button jar? I love these buttons. Some are mine, some belonged to my mother, some to my grandmother and even a few (I believe) belonged to my great-grandmother. The kids love to sort through them (I admit, so do I.) and they come in handy for counting, adding, subtracting, etc .. and some of them just feel so nice trickling through your hands. I pull this jar out sometimes when it is rainy and the kids are complaining they have nothing to do. I love that something so simple brings out their creativity. Last time they even played storekeeper with the buttons. :)
niantic bay half marathon 2010
We did it! Well, I crossed the finish line. And I was not last. And I was much "faster" than my trial run of the course a few weeks before the race. So .. great! Now if only I can properly train for the next year and run a half that I feel I am actually ready to run. But alas, homeschooling life does not leave a whole lot of room for running. However, a few times a month now the kids are both in classes at the same time and I run run run and it is glorious!
I am so very far behind on my blog .. mostly because I have taken so very many pictures that I am busy sorting .. and because we are just so very busy. I am writing this post about sept 26th on nov 5 .. and I only have this time because we are playing hooky from art class because we all have the sniffles and it is cold and rainy and we needed a quiet slow start today. As much as I want to record our happenings as they are happening .. I also want to be out there enjoying it all with the kids .. so a balance must be found! I have a distinct feeling that we will be spending a lot more time at home once it is really cold out. So I am sure I will catch up .. someday!
